Tourism boom excites Xiuwen over holiday

During this year's May Day holiday from April 29 to May 3, Xiuwen county in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, received 630,000 visits and generated over 300 million yuan ($43.41 million) in tourism revenue, up 42.39 percent and 63.78 percent, respectively.

The county received 102,200 overnight visits over the break, a year-on-year increase of 45.3 percent. The per capita consumption of tourists reached 501 yuan, a year-on-year increase of 15 percent.

Scenic spots in the county launched a series of activities to attract tourists.

The China Yangming Cultural Park held a Xiuwen special tourism commodities exhibition, trunk market, gardening exhibition, and Yangming ancient poetry rubbing, receiving about 33,000 visitors, a year-on-year growth of 1,795.46 percent.

The Guizhou Forest Wildlife Park held two forest fair animal parades every day, which attracted many visitors as well.

In addition, the Taoyuan River Scenic Area launched a night running and camping fair, as well as supporting activities such as a customized fireworks show and bonfire party.

Furthermore, rural tourism spots in the county saw rebounds in tourism. Shaxi village in Longchang sub-district in the county held a barbecue festival, receiving 12,000 tourists, a year-on-year increase of 167 percent.

The county plans to further increase the development of new tourism projects and products, optimize cultural and tourism activities, and improve its market services in order to bolster its image.
