Xiuwen county in Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has implemented a range of measures to promote the health and well-being of children. By strengthening the foundation of its healthcare services, the county is ensuring local kids will grow up healthily.
In recent years, the county has focused on health management measures for children under six years of age. This includes home visits for newborns, and health management for one-month-old babies, young infants, and preschool children.
The measures ensure that developmental and health statistics are accurately recorded for each of the 13 critical age stages after birth, including physical examinations and growth assessments. Some 93.69 percent of newborns in the county now receive home visits by doctors, while the rate of children's health management has reached 99.68 percent.
The county has also guided childcare institutions to establish service records, standardized and promoted the development of the childcare industry, and ensured that children are placed in reliable and safe care.
At the same time, it has regulated industry standards for the care of infants and young children, strengthened the daily supervision and management of local childcare institutions, and ensured that the regulation of children's health industries is conducted in an orderly manner.
Up to now, the county has completed filings for 18 childcare service institutions, which can provide services to 1,061 children.
The county has also taken proactive measures to promote good health at schools, with various departments such as the county health and education departments working together to carry out iodine deficiency disease inspections for students aged 8-10 years old.
