Guiyang launches initiatives to boost nighttime economy

This year, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, will champion its city brand, "Cool Guiyang – Wonderful Nights", aiming to establish one national-level and one provincial-level tourism and leisure block, three provincial nighttime commercial zones, pedestrian streets, and consumption hubs. The goal is to grow nighttime spending by over 8 percent year-on-year.

The city plans to integrate rural tourism, folk culture, agritourism, and youthful energy to build a vibrant, high-quality nighttime economy.

Key attractions will feature branded light shows, while nightlife will expand through sports events. Performing arts and ticket-based economies will be developed, and Yuejie Cinema complex will become a new cultural landmark. The upgrades to nighttime food streets will reinforce Guiyang's reputation as a food capital.

Infrastructure improvements include the addition of 20 new branded chain hotels, 26 provincial gold- and silver-rated accommodations, and the cultivation of 180 unique homestays. Sanitation will be enhanced with targeted restroom upgrades and better maintenance of streetlights and night lighting.

Upgraded transportation will support night activities by offering free parking near nighttime consumption hubs, extending weekend and holiday subway hours by 30 minutes, adding night bus routes, and improving taxi and ride-hailing services. At Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport, the addition of more customs counters for international visitors and multilingual signage will create a globally friendly experience.
