On July 14, Shanghai Jiao Tong University released the 2025 index of summer livability for elderly long-stay tourism destinations in China, naming Guiyang the third most suitable city for seniors seeking a seasonal retreat.
The index assessed 76 cities based on 17 weighted factors – including temperature, healthcare quality, transportation access, and cost of living – to determine their overall suitability for summer retirement living.

Guiyang has been featured on the list for six consecutive years, consistently placing near the top: 3rd in 2020, 2nd from 2021 to 2023, 4th in 2024, and 3rd again this year.
As a major city in Southwest China and the country's first National Forest City, Guiyang boasts a cool, pleasant climate, lush natural beauty, a rich cultural heritage, and a comprehensive transportation network – making it an ideal destination for seasonal senior living and wellness tourism.
