Xiuwen power station project to start construction

Preparations for the Guiyang Pumped Storage Power Station project located in Gubao town, Xiuwen county, are now more than 60 percent complete. The main project will start construction at the end of this year and is expected to be completed and put into operation for power generation by 2030.

The total installed capacity of the power station is 1.5 million kilowatts, with a dynamic total investment of 9.24 billion yuan ($1.29 billion). It is a key energy construction project implemented in the national 14th Five Year Plan and the first approved pumped storage power station in Guizhou province.  

"We are currently carrying out the relevant work. Progress has exceeded 60 percent and will be completed by the end of this year. There are currently more than 500 construction personnel present," said Lei Jinhua, a representative of Guiyang Pumped Storage Power Generation Co.

The length of the water intake shaft of the power station is 570 meters, which is the longest among similar projects in the country, and is the most difficult and important main project in the construction of the project.

Once completed, the project is expected to generate 1.78 billion kilowatt hours of electricity annually. This will increase the absorption of clean energy such as wind power and photovoltaics by 3.66 billion kW h and reduce coal consumption by 1.08 million metric tons, promoting the construction of a clean, low-carbon, safe, controllable, flexible, and efficient new power system.
