On Oct 19, the capacity enhancement project of the Binjiang Bridge in Xiuwen county was completed and will soon resume traffic.

The Binjiang Bridge, located on the Qianxi-Guangtian Highway in Xiuwen county, was completed and opened to traffic in 1996. With a total length of 248 meters and a main span of 150 m, it is a prestressed concrete truss composite arch bridge, which is a distinctive large-span bridge that was created in Guizhou.

This old bridge has survived 30 years of wind and rain, with cracks, peeling concrete, steel corrosion and other issues appearing throughout the years. On May 28, the transportation bureau of Xiuwen county led the construction of the Binjiang Bridge Capacity Enhancement Project, which was undertaken by Guiyang Highway Engineering General Co.

The project received technical support from Guizhou University's research team in terms of reinforcement design and capacity enhancement. The original bridge design load level has been upgraded to Highway II level. In addition, a new roadway guardrail has been added to restore the functionality of the sidewalk, and the bridge's waterproof and drainage systems have been systematically renovated.

Shi Jianguo, a representative of the Xiuwen county transportation bureau, said, 'With the help of Professor Mei Shilong's research team, the project was completed more than two months ahead of schedule."
